Nutrition for cyclists: Not high carb Not low carb but Smart carb
What to eat before, during and after your training?
Not all high carb. Not all low carb. But smart carbs to fuel your training intensity.
Of course your fitness level, years experience training and gender play a big role, but the fuel your body uses and needs also depends on the type of training you are doing, what sort of intensity, duration and what you want to achieve from the ride.
The lower the intensity aka slower, easier, long duration rides, the more your body will use fat as a fuel source.
BUT! Most people don't realise just how the low intensity needs to be before you start prioritising carbs as a fuel source.
When training intensity goes up, your body uses more carbohydrates to fuel that effort.
Without the proper fuel, you might be cutting off your peak performance, delay recovery and feel constantly hungry all day.
This is why what you eat before, during and after your training will have an impact in many ways.
Its not about being all high carb or low carb, but about being smart with your carbs - adapting it throughout the day and around training to achieve your goals.
