Nobody notices your weight gain as much as you think they do

Chances are, nobody else notices when you have gained or lost weight.

Trust me - I've even had people tell me they had gained or lost >5kg over the last few crazy stressful years we've had and I hadn't even noticed!!

So stop beating yourself up or stressing about it if you have changed weight.

Punishment or restriction rarely leads to positive long term success and your weight does not determine your value.

Regardless of what the media says, you don't have to lose weight this year to be a better human, or shame yourself about what has happened if your weight has crept up.

I often say that you don't have to wait to new year to make changes and improve your life and diet because it needs to last to be sustainable.

Whatever your goals, every meal of every day, week, month and year is an opportunity to eat better.

Too many people over complicate their nutrition. Keep it simple and focus on mastering the basics for. life:

  • Focus on less processed, more wholefoods and whole grains.

  • Increase your vegetable and fruit intake at all meals.

  • Ensure there is plenty of protein throughout each meal of the day.

  • Establish a regular eating pattern that works for you.

  • Listen to your hunger cues and stop eating before you are overfull.

  • Drink more water.

  • And for my cyclists out there, don't forget to fuel your training!

You are better off making one change this year that you stick with for the rest of your life (and build upon) than making ten big changes that are all dropped by the end of January.
