Did your weight increase? Don't panic!

Freaking out because your weight has changed dramatically?

Before you hit the panic button and use it as a reason to go on a crash diet, take a moment to pause and put that one number in context of the bigger picture.

Our weight changes a lot on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis - way beyond changes in body composition.

Many factors influence the number you see on the scale on a micro level - including food intake, training intensity or duration and hormonal status.

Especially for women!

At the risk of sharing too much information, my 'weight' can fluctuate by up to 2kg depending on what point of the month it is due to hormonal shifts and fluid retention.

TWO KILOS of extra water weight for a couple days every month!!

When we understand how, when and why those fluctuations occur - it can help keep us confident and reassured to continue progressing towards our goals.

If weight loss is a goal, it is SO important not to be discouraged by one number, but to remember that weight loss is rarely a linear process but a long-game.

I see so many people stressing about a change in their weight that has absolutely nothing to do with their body composition.

It is normal for weight to be going up and down, and I regularly remind my clients that weight maintenance is a win since that is actually the hardest part.

And remember - at the end of the day your weight doesn't influence your value as a human.

Your weight doesn't make you a better, more loveable or valuable person.

It's just a number.
