Supermarket energy bars to fuel your cycling

When you are fuelling your rides well, you will be eating much more on the bike.

That doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune on commercial sports drinks, bars and gels. There are plenty of affordable convenient options at your local supermarket to try.

These options range from 17-38g of carbs per bar for less than a dollar each.

Things to consider:

  • Texture: how dry, chewy, sticky it is to eat

  • How easy you can open the packet when on the move

  • Does it crumble, dissolve or disintegrate like chocolate in the heat or in your back pocket

Flavour fatigue is a big deal, so having plenty of options on hand means you'll be more likely to fuel your rides.

What are your current ride fuel favourites?
